In a few weeks is the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing, and mankind’s first steps on the moon. On July 20, 1969, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landed on the moon, while Michael Collins orbited in the Command Module.
“Houston, Tranquility Base here. The Eagle has landed.”
– Neil Armstrong upon landing the Lunar Module (LEM), named Eagle, in the Sea of Tranquility on the Moon.

A small TV camera beamed a grainy image back to Earth
“That’s One Small Step for (a) Man, One Giant Leap for Mankind.”
This sculpture is dedicated to the crew of Apollo 11, the crews of the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo missions, to NASA, and to the thousands of people from that time who helped make that vision a reality.
“.. we leave as we came and, god willing, as we shall return, with peace and hope for all mankind.”
– Gene Cernan, Commander, Apollo 17, Most Recent, but hopefully Not Last, Person to Walk on the Moon, December 19, 1972
